Speaking at a joint press conference after a meeting, Cvetkovic said that Serbia is pleased with the fact that Croatia has almost completed its EU integration process. He said that he hopes that Serbia will have Croatia’s support on its path to the EU and will be able to benefit from its experience.
The most important step has been taken, as a forward looking spirit of cooperation has been established. We do not want to say that all problems have been solved but there is a will for resolving these problems in a constructive manner and in the interest of both sides, said the Prime Minister. Belgrade is ready to withdraw its genocide countersuit against Croatia if Zagreb withdraws its suit against Serbia at the International Court of Justice, he said.
Generally we have established the principle that dialogue and a search for solutions is to be our priority and Serbia is ready to withdraw the countersuit if an agreement is reached for lawsuits from both sides to be withdrawn simultaneously without any further conditions being set, explained Cvetkovic.
Kosor said that the translation of EU legislation has cost Croatia nearly €8 million and by providing this document to Belgrade, Zagreb is expressing its clear wish to intensify cooperation with Belgrade.
I want this act to be a pledge of good cooperation and friendship between our good countries, said Kosor, adding that all countries in the region will have Croatia’s strong support regarding their EU integration processes.
Commenting on whether Croatia is willing to withdraw its suit against Serbia, Kosor said that only the Croatian government can make a decision concerning this matter and it has not been debated yet.
It is important for us to build better relations, to establish economic cooperation and to create a new future instead of returning to the past, she said.
The meeting in Zagreb was also attended by Serbian Deputy Prime Minister for EU integration Bozidar Djelic and Director of the EU Integration Office Milica Delevic.
