Serbia, Croatia to set up joint centre for fight against organised crime soon

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dacic, who met in Osijek today with Croatian Minister of the Interior Tomislav Karamarko, announced that Serbia and Croatia will set up a joint centre for the fight against organised crime soon.

Dacic and Karamarko stated that next week a working group of the two states’ police forces will begin preparations for the adoption of legislation for setting up the centre.
The ministers pointed out that organised crime knows of no borders nor nations and therefore better police cooperation is necessary not only between police officers from Croatia and Serbia, but in the whole Western Balkan region.
Karamarko expressed his hope that the centre will be established in the next few months.
Citizens of Serbia and Croatia deserve to be safe, and it is up to our ministries to provide them that, Karamarko said.
Dacic said that the police of the two countries will first make the legal framework and then determine funds for the centre’s functioning. The centre will make a joint evaluation of the two countries´ exposure to risk from organised crime.
We will make joint databases on criminal groups so that we can track them down and collect data on their activities so that we can arrest them, Dacic said.
The Serbian Minister of the Interior recalled that the implementation of the Agreement on police cooperation between Serbia and Croatia begins today, which enables better exchange of information on criminal groups.
Karamarko and Dacic agreed that police cooperation between the two countries is excellent.
Head of the Serbian police Milorad Veljovic also attended the meeting with Karamarko.
