Counter-terrorist Unit crucial for combating organised crime

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dacic and President Boris Tadic attended a celebration of the Counter-terrorist Unit (PTJ) Day at the PTJ base in Lipovica.

Dacic said that the fight against crime, corruption and terrorism must be continuous, stressing that good cooperation of state organs and security structures, as well as international cooperation, are a precondition for success in this matter.

He reiterated that Serbia, or any other country for that matter, cannot make progress unless it puts an end to crime, corruption and terrorism, in order to create a peaceful and stable community.

He said that on PTJ Day it is only proper to remember the police officers who have given their lives for the state and its future over the past 20 years, stressing that the state must take care of their families.

President Tadic said that the state will win the struggle against organised crime because it is more powerful than criminal groups, underlining that the PTJ, police and security services confirm that no one has more power than the state.

He praised the Unit, stressing that Serbia should know that the PTJ is always at the forefront of the fight against organised crime.

Serbia is a leading force in the region in the fight against organised crime, he said.

We are ready to meet any challenge in this fight because we know that we are doing this for our future generations, said the President.

The ceremony held at the PTJ base was also attended by Deputy Prime Minister Jovan Krkobabic, Police Director Milorad Veljovic, State Secretary at the Ministry of Justice Slobodan Homen, Director of the Security and Intelligence Agency Sasa Vukadinovic and representatives of the diplomatic corps, including Russian Ambassador to Serbia Alexander Konuzin.

After the ceremony and a display of exercises by Unit members, Dacic presented a Unit plaque to President Tadic. Unit Commander Goran Dragovic presented gifts to Konuzin, Veljovic and CEO of Lukoil Beopetrol Alexander Panfilov.
