Serbia must become a state of social justice

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dacic extended greetings to citizens and police officers on the occasion of May Day, stressing that Serbia must become a state of social justice and equal opportunities for all.
This morning Dacic laid wreaths at the monument to Dimitrije Tucovic at Slavija Square, marking Labour Day, the international celebration of the labour movement, and afterwards with associates and representatives of the police union attended a May Day celebration at the police centre in Makis.
The Minister stressed that Serbia cannot be a proper state if it is not a country of social justice, as is stated in the Serbian Constitution.
This means that every child must have equal opportunities to succeed in life. Serbia must not give up on its social-democratic struggle and the fight for workers’ rights, he noted.
Dacic affirmed that the Ministry heads and union representatives started negotiations about amending the collective agreement for the police force to solve a number of issues.
The aim of these changes is to secure the same conditions for employees in the police as in other state organs.
The Minister commended all police officers for achieving outstanding results in the fight against organised crime and the preservation of public peace and order.
The police do not want special status, but only the status which police forces in other countries have, Dacic concluded.
