Serbia to reach agreement with IMF

Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration and Minister of Science and Technological Development Bozidar Djelic said that Serbia will be able to reach an agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and announced that by the end of next week this international financial institution will be sent the Serbian government’s plan.

Djelic told Radio Television Serbia, upon his return from Washington, that revenues and expenses were at the planned level in the first quarter of the year.
We talked about what would be the key elements of discussion in the second half of May, said Djelic and added that the most important elements are reform of the pension system and the law on fiscal accountability.
He confirmed that Serbia expects to receive $580 million from the World Bank in the next 12 months.
Of that amount $400 million will be earmarked for the budget, $200 million each for this and next year, said the Deputy Prime Minister and announced that $50 million will be earmarked for Corridor 10, $10 million for the revitalisation of the Bor district and $30 million to prevent floods.
Timocka Krajina, Toplica and Aleksinac will receive $7 million, he said noting that Jadar will also receive some funds.
Djelic, on the occasion of the signing of the Agreement on scientific and technological cooperation with the United States, announced that a five-year cycle of funding research projects worth €500 million is to start on 23 May.
He also said that Serbia will support the idea of 10 July being declared the international day of science, the birth date of Serbian scientist Nikola Tesla.
