Serbia, Bosnia-Herzegovina must solve reduced pensions issue

Deputy Prime Minister Jovan Krkobabic met today with delegations of the Serbian and Bosnia-Herzegovinian liaison organs to discuss the implementation of the Agreement on Social Insurance, with a focus on pension and disability insurance.
They agreed at the meeting that cooperation between the organs from both countries is good when it comes to solving issues regarding the rights to pension and disability insurance.
Special attention was paid to pensions and their reduction by one-third by the state, on account of the so-called debt incurred over the last few years. There are around 20,000 pensioners in Serbia faced with this problem.
Krkobabic pointed to the unsustainability of such a practice because people have gained the right to pensions and it must not be reduced in any way through subsequent procedures.
They agreed to start amending the administrative agreement between Serbia and Bosnia-Herzegovina to enable pension beneficiaries to start receiving pensions without any reductions in line with the Agreement on Social Insurance, signed between these countries.
He called upon the delegations to solve this issue as soon as possible since it concerns the very existence of thousands of people.
