Djelic presents agreements on stipends to new generation of PhD students

Deputy Prime Minister for EU integration and Minister of Science and Technological Development Bozidar Djelic presented a new generation of PhD students with agreements on stipends for 15 scientific areas.

Djelic said that 201 PhD students and 16 secondary school students have been granted stipends for 2010, specifying that they will be receiving RSD 32,000 a month and will be provided compensation for their involvement in projects of up to RSD 11,000 a month.
The Deputy Prime Minister noted the importance of encouraging new PhD students to remain in Serbia after they receive their degrees.
He stressed that doctoral studies are an important part of the Strategy for Scientific and Technological Development, adding that the state must stimulate new, young scientists since it has a long scientific history.
The holders of scholarships of the Ministry of Science and Technological Development are exempted from paying tuition fees, Djelic said and called on them to attend an event on 23 May where conditions for financing a new cycle of scientific projects will be presented.
He explained that around one billion euros will be used for that purpose over the next five years, of which one half is intended for financing projects and the other half for infrastructure and equipment.
