The Serbian government’s official website gives excerpts of this interview.
Exporting military industry:
Our products sell extremely well in the traditionally friendly countries of the Near East and Northern Africa. These countries have been sending their soldiers to our Military Academy for years, therefore we can say that we also export knowledge.
Housing issues of Serbian soldiers:
It is a fact that after a considerable number of years we have begun solving these housing issues. In the last two years we secured flats for over 2,000 families and I expect that at least another 1,000 are taken care of this year.
The introduction of a professional army:
This process is certainly one of the major social reforms in Serbia. I am deeply convinced that this will be the year in which conscripts will be called upon to serve in the army for the last time.
Citizens trust in the Serbian Army:
If we compare the standard of Serbian soldiers now to that of previous years, we can see that it has been greatly improved and that the system finally functions well. I believe that the most important aspect is that we have restored the image of soldiers and regained citizens’ trust in the Serbian Army.
In which peace operations will the Serbian Army take part?
We will contemplate participating in three new peace missions. As soon as we have concrete information about that, we will let the public know.
