Dacic meets with Norwegian Justice Minister

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dacic met with Norwegian Minister of Justice Knut Stoberget in Norway today and discussed police cooperation between Serbia and Norway.

During the past six years cooperation was extremely successful. The Norwegian Justice Ministry and the Norwegian government have provided major donations for police reform in Serbia, said Dacic.
These donations worth millions of Euros were used for financing and investment in the police education system, the development of criminal police, local community police projects and human resource management, the Minister said.
Police information exchange was also very successful, he said.
Last year, this exchange of information led to arrest of the criminal group known as the Pink Panthers, responsible for robberies and thefts throughout the world.
Dacic said that Storberget initiated the signing of an agreement on transfer of prisoners which will make it possible for Serbian citizens who were both convicted and serving their sentences in Norway, of whom there are more than 35, to serve their sentences in Serbia.
This falls within the competence of other ministries, the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Human and Minority Rights, this being a very useful initiative, Dacic said.
The Serbian Minister of the Interior reiterated that cooperation with Scandinavian countries is very good, from the prevention of trafficking in people, arms and drugs, to the prevention of robberies, murders and the stealing of cars.
Storberget said that the two ministries have good relations and that Norway wants to boost international cooperation because this is the best way to fight organised crime.
Tomorrow Dacic will meet with Speaker of the Norwegian parliament Dag Terje Andersen and National Police Commissioner Ingelin Killengreen in order to agree on ways of future police cooperation.
