Strategy for Danube region to help solve unresolved regional issues

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Science and Technological Development Bozidar Djelic said after the closing of the Danube summit in Budapest today that a strategy for the Danube region can help solve some unresolved bilateral issues.

Djelic told the press in the hall of the Hungarian Academy of Science that one of these issues is the demarcation of the border between Serbia and Croatia on the Danube. He said that the Serbian representative in the mixed commission is Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs Zdravko Ponos.
He voiced the hope that negotiations on this issue will start soon and added that the Danube strategy will make it possible to establish a nature reserve at the tri-border point of Serbia, Hungary and Croatia, near Bezdan, Baja and Kopacki Rit.
Djelic said that the document will enable the continuation of talks between Serbia and Romania regarding further energy exploitation of the Danube.
The Deputy Prime Minister reiterated at the conference that Serbia will be actively engaged in the drafting of the strategy, stressing that Serbia is convinced that this document is a great opportunity for its development.
Djelic also met with President of the Hungarian Academy of Science academician József Pálinkás today.
