At a press conference following the Council’s 6th session, chaired by Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic, Samardzic-Markovic stressed that the Republic Broadcasting Agency (RRA) will be recommended to advise all printed media not to publish photos of hooligan behaviour at sport events.
She said that only the consequences of violence at sporting events will be published and that front pages will not publish photographs of dead or injured fans.
She said that these conclusions and measures are in accordance with the recommendations of the International Federation of Sports Journalists of FIFA and UEFA, as well as with the Law on Information and the Code of Journalists.
The Minister announced that a symposium with the owners and chief editors of the media will be held on further ways of combating violence at sporting events.
Samardzic-Markovic pointed out that from October to December 2009 the number of incidents and serious cases of violation of public peace and order declined by 28%, compared to the year before.
