Djelic said in an interview with today's edition of the daily Politika that upon receiving a "green light", the European Commission will send us a questionnaire by express, which
was confirmed by new European Enlargement Commissioner Stefan Fule during the talks in Brussels.
The Deputy Prime Minister said that this is very encouraging, because Serbia would be ready for this step in May and has already prepared all the answers to questionnaires that were given to other countries before.
He announced that the first session of the committee for implementation of the Interim Trade Agreement will be held on 2 March.
We will consider everything that we have done since January 2009, said Djelic.
Spain’s EU presidency announced it would try to put Serbia's request for membership before the EU Council as soon as possible, he said noting that a consensus of all member countries is needed.
Such a consensus cannot be achieved before the beginning of the ratification of the Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA) in mid-year. Ratification means that Serbia will get a positive report by Serge Brammertz, Djelic said.
Of course, the extradition of the remaining Hague indictees would immediately unblock the process, Djelic said.
Djelic also recalled that European officials have said many times that the solution to the Kosovo issue and Serbia's European perspective are two separate processes.
