Jasna Matic and Branko Radujko
At a press conference for the occasion of the Children’s Safer Internet Day, Matic recalled that the campaign began last year with the support of Telekom Srbija, adding that mobile operators Telenor and Vip Mobile joined the campaign this year.
She said that starting on March 1 lectures will be held throughout schools in Serbia to educate teachers, psychologists and parents’ councils on this matter, adding that a broad informative campaign via the media has also been planned.
The Minister explained that children know more about the Internet than their parents and teachers do, which is why it is necessary to teach them about the contents that can be found on the internet.
The campaign will include sending out information leaflets with telephone bills and separate messages for both children and parents, she said.
Director General of Telekom Srbija Branko Radujko recalled that last year free internet was introduced in schools throughout Serbia.
He added that it is very important to develop awareness about parental supervision over access to internet content so that children may benefit from the internet properly.
Radujko said that his company initiated the procurement of new technology for its ADSL customers which will allow parents to protect children from accessing improper content.
According to Radujko, parents will have the opportunity to define the web addresses or keywords that can block access to web pages that can detect some of these words.
Safer Internet Day was established back in 2004 at the initiative of the EU to promote the safe use of the internet and mobile phones by children and young people.
This year’s global slogan is “Think before sending”.
