Danube presents great chance for Serbia’s development

Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Bozidar Djelic said today that the Danube presents a great chance for Serbia’s development, having one quarter of the river’s navigable route, which enables it to actively participate in the preparation of the EU strategy for the Danube region.
Djelic said at the opening of the Danube Rectors’ Conference, held at the Vojvodina Assembly, that this is a chance for boosting the economy in Serbia, increasing transport on the Danube and developing infrastructure in its neighbouring areas with the help of EU funds.
President of the Vojvodina Executive Council Bojan Pajtic said that this province is the only region in Europe where all nationalities of the Danube region live and all languages of the Danube region are spoken.
Rector of the Novi Sad University Miroslav Veskovic said that the Danube Rectors’ Conference should have its permanent representative in Brussels in order to become a more efficient organisation that will apply for European projects.
The regular annual meeting of the Danube Rectors’ Conference is being held in Novi Sad from February 4 to 6 , with the host being Novi Sad University.
The Danube Rectors’ Conference is the greatest European academic network with over 50 members. It was founded in 1983.
