Danube as great opportunity for Serbia

Serbian Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Bozidar Djelic presented Serbian positions on the EU strategy for the Danube region today at the international conference in Ulm and suggested the organisation of a Danubian council for young people during this summer’s Exit Festival.

Djelic told the FoNet news agency that the programme for this strategy had been formally launched at the conference on the EU strategy for the Danube region in Ulm.
He said that Serbia presented its own priorities and also what should be considered to be a European strategy for the Danube region.
Djelic explained that Europe suggested priorities of the strategy as being environmental protection, transportation, energy and socio-economic development.
We also added the issue of security, because it is very important that the development of the Danube in no way jeopardises any of the countries of the Danube basin, said Djelic.
The Deputy Prime Minister said that Serbia suggested the organisation of a Danubian council for young people during this summer’s Exit Festival and added that this idea had been accepted with much enthusiasm.
Djelic also suggested the organisation of a summit in Belgrade in autumn at which the whole of Europe, together with Serbia, would consider ways of financing the projects proposed.
He reiterated that the Danube would be a huge chance for Serbia in many fields, such as infrastructure, energy, environmental protection, culture and tourism.
Djelic said that Serbia will take an active part in the preparation of this crucial EU macroeconomic strategy.
