Full implementation of interim trade agreement part of Serbia’s EU integration process

Deputy Prime Minister for EU integration Bozidar Djelic said today in Stuttgart that the full implementation of the interim trade agreement by the EU confirms that the Serbian government’s decision last year to start unilateral implementation was correct and that the implementation of the agreement is part of Serbia’s EU integration process.
In a statement to FoNet news agency, Djelic said that the formal implementation of the interim trade agreement by the EU is to begin today, as decided by the EU ministers in December last year.
In March, we will form a committee for monitoring the implementation of this extremely important agreement for a period of more than one year, said Djelic.
Bearing in mind that the implementation of the trade agreement is one of the key conditions for acquiring candidate status, it is evident that the Serbian government’s decision to start unilateral implementation last year was correct and today the EU is taking steps which are essential for quicker EU integration for Serbia, reiterated Djelic.
Djelic is on a two day visit to Germany. Today in Stuttgart he will meet Prime Minister of Baden-Württemberg Günther Oettinger, who is a candidate for the position of EU commissioner for energy.
On February 2, Djelic will visit Ulm, where he will speak at the opening of the “Conference on the EU Strategy for the Danube Region”. The Conference is the first of a series of planned events related to this issue.
On the fringes of the Conference, Djelic will hold meetings with Speaker of the State Parliament of Baden-Württemberg, Peter Straub and Minister for Federal and European Affairs, Wolfgang Reinhardt.
