US officials satisfied with cooperation with Serbian police

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dacic said that US officials have expressed satisfaction over the cooperation with the Serbian Interior Ministry in the fight against organised crime, corruption and terrorism.

Dacic, who is on a seven-day visit to the United States, said that he met with Deputy Secretary of State James Steinberg and Assistant to the State Secretary for the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement David Jones.

During the talks, he stressed that Serbia is currently an important regional factor of peace, political stability and cooperation of police and security structures.

He said that both countries advocate a constructive approach when solving issues of disagreement, such as the unilateral declared independence of Kosovo-Metohija, noting that the policy of peace and stability in the region is in the interest of all.

He announced that he will have very important meetings with representatives of the Department of Justice and those in charge of national security during the upcoming days in Washington DC and New York.

The First Deputy Prime Minister said he will meet with the head of the New York police, the FBI director and representatives of other security structures in the United States.

The Serbian delegation will also meet with the Assistant to the UN Secretary General in charge of peacekeeping operations, said Dacic and recalled that Serbian police has its peacekeeping missions in Haiti and in Liberia.

We expect that members of the Serbian gendarmerie will join the Italian contingent of UN peacekeeping forces in Haiti soon.

He also announced he will hold lectures at Columbia University in New York and the University for National Security in Washington DC.

Dacic expressed the hope that this working visit to the United States will stimulate further cooperation with the US police and security structures as well as with various ministries.
