Newly elected Serbian Patriarch Irinej enthroned

Newly elected head of the Serbian Orthodox Church Patriarch Irinej was enthroned today at the Cathedral Church in Belgrade as the 45th head of the Church.
Newly elected Serbian Patriarch Irinej and Serbian Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic
Metropolitan Amfilohije of Montenegro and the Littoral presented the patriarchate insignia to Patriarch Irinej of Serbia.
The enthronement ceremony was attended by Serbian Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic, Parliament Speaker Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dacic, Minister of Religion Bogoljub Sijakovic, Belgrade Mayor Dragan Djilas, Republika Srpska Prime Minister Milorad Dodik, representatives of other churches and religious communities.
The Roman Catholic Church was represented by Vatican Nuncio to Serbia Mr. Orlando Antonini and Archbishop of Belgrade Stanislav Hocevar. The Muslim community was represented by Reis-ul-Ulema of the Islamic Community of Serbia Adem Zilkic, and Serbia’s Mufti Muhamed Jusufspahic.
Messages of congratulations for the new Patriarch arrived from several state and religious functionaries including Pope Benedict XVI and President of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity Cardinal Walter Kasper.
