Serbian Minister of Infrastructure Milutin Mrkonjic said today that his Ministry’s priority next year will be to continue the construction of the road Corridor 10 for completion by May 1, 2012.

Speaking at a press conference at which the results and future plans of the Ministry were presented, Mrkonjic said that a sum of $388 million has been secured from the World Bank for the construction of the road Corridor 10, adding that a further €600 million will come from the European Investment Bank, €150 million from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and €100 million from the Hellenic Plan.
Mrkonjic said that the completion of works on the rail Corridor 10 requires funds of €1.1 billion and that guarantees for an €850 million loan for this purpose have been secured from the budget, adding that the situation concerning the Russian loan will become clearer by the end of January.
He said that the railway line from Subotica to Nis will be modernised so that it will be able to accommodate trains that travel at speeds of 160 kilometres per hour.
He said that the railway line from Nis to Dimitrovgrad will be electrified because it is the only section of Corridor 10 which has not been electrified yet.
