Continuation of police reforms priority for Interior Ministry

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dacic said today that his Ministry’s priorities in the coming year will be the continuation of police reforms and the fight against crime and terrorism.

Dacic told the press that the Interior Ministry will work to implement the road safety law and the law on the confiscation of assets obtained through crime, adding that laws concerning emergency situations and fire protection and prevention will be adopted.

He said that the Interior Ministry has met all obligations required for visa liberalisation, adding that criteria from the visa liberalisation road map given to the Serbian government in May last year have been met.

When Serbia acquires candidate status, it will receive a new road map, a key part of which will once again concern the regulation of interior affairs and the judiciary, said Dacic.

He said that it is most important that good results have been achieved in the fight against crime and corruption, that Serbian citizens have a more secure living environment and that the police work for the interests of all citizens and the state of Serbia. Speaking about amendments to the Law on prevention of violence and improper behaviour in sporting events, Dacic said that the law itself is not enough. All state organs and social factors must create an environment supporting the fight against hooliganism and violence in general.
