No arrests of Serbs living abroad who dodged conscription

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dacic today stated that conscripts living abroad who have not completed their obligatory army service will not be arrested, and can feel free to come to Serbia for the Christmas holidays.

At the delivery of 10 fire fighting and rescue vehicles to the premises of the Belgrade fire fighting and rescue brigade, Dacic stressed that the police will not be searching for young men living abroad who avoided their compulsory enrollment for service in Serbia’s armed forces.
He said that they will have no problems at border-crossings, noting that he had discussed this issue with representatives from the Ministry of Defence.
He said that the Serbian government has adopted a bill on amnesty for all those who did not do their obligatory military service because they were living abroad. He voiced hope that this law will be passed by parliament soon.
The fire rescue vehicles were purchased with funds from the National Investment Plan and were handed over to the sector for emergency situations for its units in Belgrade, Novi Sad, Kragujevac and Nis.
State Secretary at the Finance Ministry Slobodan Ilic presented life insurance policies to the best firemen in Serbia.
