Jeremic told a press conference that the two countries will cooperate closely and that Serbia wishes to establish strong ties with Kuwait, as was the case a few decades ago.
The Minister said that today’s talks with Kuwaiti officials also focused on expanding defence cooperation, adding that Serbia was Kuwait’s top military equipment supplier during the Iraqi occupation.
Cooperation in education and health was also discussed, said Jeremic.
At his meeting with Mohammed al-Sabah, Jeremic expressed gratitude to Kuwait for its principled stance on the issue of Kosovo-Metohija and not recognising Kosovo’s unilateral declaration of independence.
He said that the joint position was affirmed that all conflicts, whether on the Balkans, the Middle East or any other region, should be resolved peacefully through the UN, while respecting international law and not by making unilateral moves.
Mohammed al-Sabah said that Kuwait wishes to have friendly relations with Serbia as it did with the former Yugoslavia, reiterating his country’s stance that all conflicts in the region must be settled peacefully.
He supported Serbia’s proposal to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Non-Aligned Movement in Belgrade, where it was founded in 1961.
Jeremic also met this evening with Kuwaiti Chief of Army Staff.
