Speaking at a joint press conference with Moratinos, Jeremic said that 2009 was a good year for Serbia regarding the EU integration process as visa restrictions were removed and the interim trade agreement with the EU was unfrozen.
I believe that 2010 will be even better because Spain will assume the EU presidency, said Jeremic, adding that Serbia has ambitious plans for next year, including moving forward with the EU integration process.
The Minister said that relations between Serbia and Spain are excellent, adding that he is convinced that cooperation will improve in all fields.
Speaking about the Kosovo-Metohija issue, Jeremic said that Serbia will continue the peaceful and diplomatic struggle for safeguarding its territorial integrity.
Moratinos said that from January 1, 2010 Spain will take over the EU presidency and will make every effort to help Serbia achieve its goal of joining the EU.
Moratinos, who is visiting Belgrade today, said that Spain will facilitate the ratification of the Stabilisation and Association Agreement between Serbia and the EU and will support Serbia’s candidacy for joining the EU when the moment arrives.
The Spanish government is in full agreement with the Serbian government’s position on international and regional issues, he said.
Moratinos said that the close ties between Serbia and Spain are based not only on friendship but also on the fact that both countries are defending the international norms which all countries must observe.
He stressed that bilateral relations are improving and voiced hope that 2010 will be even better for Serbia’s cooperation with the EU and Spain.
Moratinos will receive the title of honourary citizen of Belgrade this evening.
