Decision to remove visa restrictions good news for Serbia

Deputy Prime Minister for EU integration Bozidar Djelic said today that he hopes non-Schengen EU countries such as Romania and Bulgaria will make entry easier for Serbian citizens.

In a statement to Radio B92, Djelic said that the decision to remove visa restrictions on Serbian citizens for travel to Schengen countries is good news, adding that he hopes that there will be more such encouraging decisions regarding European integration by the end of the year.
He said that more than 1.3 million Serbian citizens have been issued with the new biometric passport, adding that from tomorrow new passports will also include digital fingerprinting.
He said that the decision to remove visa restrictions will make it possible for Serbian citizens who have new passports to travel in Schengen countries for a total of 90 days during a six month period.
Djelic said that the decision will come into force on the night between December 18 and 19, adding that to mark this occasion the Serbian government has organised the Europe for All programme and 50 Serbian citizens will be chosen to travel to the EU under this programme.
