Visa liberalisation great success for Serbian people

Deputy Prime Minister for EU integration Bozidar Djelic said today in Loznica that on December 20, the first group of 50 Serbian citizens who have never been abroad before and have achieved something outstanding, will leave on a six day trip to EU countries.

Presenting the Europe for All project at the Loznica City Assembly, Djelic stressed that the removal of visa restrictions for travelling to EU countries is a great success for all Serbian people, adding that the restrictions will be removed from December 19.

He stressed that the trip, arranged for the first group of Serbian citizens to EU countries as part of the Europe for All project, will be symbolic, marking the beginning of visa liberalisation. He said that it will be financed solely through foreign and domestic donations.

Djelic reiterated that EU membership will be of great advantage to Serbia and the Serbian people.

Speaking about the status of Kosovo-Metohija, Djelic said that the EU is neutral regarding the issue and the European Commission’s decision on visa liberalisation treats this issue according to Security Council Resolution 1244.

Djelic said that it is of particular importance for Serbia that Belgrade will be consulted regarding the next step in visa liberalisation, concerning Serbian citizens living in Kosovo-Metohija.
