Serbia fulfils conditions from EU visa liberalisation road map

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dacic said today that members of the European Parliament’s working group for the West Balkans have a very positive view of Serbia’s progress regarding the fulfilment of criteria set forth in the EU’s visa liberalisation road map.

After a meeting with members of the working group in Brussels, Dacic said that the removal of visa restrictions is not just a political decision it also means that a country meets certain technical criteria as well.

He said that this is just a first step and Serbia would like to see other countries in the region moving towards visa liberalisation and for Serbian citizens living in Kosovo-Metohija to enjoy the same rights as well.

The future for us all is in Europe and EU membership remains a priority for the government and my Ministry, said Dacic.

Head of the working group Hans Svoboda said that the European Parliament wishes to remove visa restrictions for all the countries in the region.

European Parliament Rapporteur for Serbia Jelko Kacin congratulated Dacic on the accomplishments of the Serbian Interior Ministry regarding the fulfilment of criteria for visa liberalisation.

European Parliament Rapporteur for visa liberalisation Tanya Fayon congratulated Serbian citizens on the removal of visa restrictions and stressed that the decision will come into force on December 19.
