Germany supports unfreezing of interim trade agreement with the EU

Serbian Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Bozidar Djelic said today that the German Chancellor Angela Merkel stated that Serbia has fulfilled the conditions for the unfreezing of the Interim Trade Agreement with the EU.

He explained that such support from Germany is very significant. There are indications that the position of the Netherlands might also change, but that will be seen on December 10 when the EU summit will be held.

The Dutch parliament authorized its Foreign Minister Maxime Verhagen to evaluate whether the report of the Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY) Serge Brammertz is good enough for the Netherlands to review its position. Speaking about applying for EU candidacy, Djelic said that Angela Merkel underlined that the interim trade agreement should be implemented first, and then Serbia can submit its application.
