Western Balkan countries make major progress in visa liberalisation process

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dacic protested today during the EU and West Balkans judiciary and interior affairs ministerial forum over the removal of the UNMIK sign from their desks by the members of the Kosovo delegation.

According to a statement issued by the Interior Ministry, the ministerial meeting in Brussels was delayed because of this problem. After the protest voiced by Dacic the problem was resolved and the session began with a greeting speech by Swedish Justice Minister Beatrice Ask.

She stressed that the integration of the countries of the Western Balkans and their visa liberalisation processes are priorities for the EU, adding that Sweden’s chief priority during its EU presidency has been the fight against human trafficking.

European Commission Vice President Jacques Barrot presented an assessment of the situation in the West Balkans, stressing that the process of stabilisation and association is of key importance for the integration of the countries in the region.

Speaking about the visa liberalisation process Barrot said that major progress has been made and this is a great success for the Western Balkan countries. He congratulated Serbia, Macedonia and Montenegro for the work they have done.
