Serbian Minister of Culture Nebojsa Bradic and Greek Ambassador to Serbia Dimosthenis Stoidis visited today the reconstruction work on the Nebojsa Tower in the lower part of the Belgrade fortress, which are being financed through a donation from Greece.
Bradic said that Nebojsa Tower will be turned into exhibition space, which will hold exhibitions in honour of the Greek poet and revolutionary Rigas Feraios, who was hanged in the tower and to the memory of Serbia and Greece's battle for liberation from the Ottoman Empire.
Stoidis said that the Nebojsa Tower is an important building and that its reconstruction is important to the development of cultural and political relations between Greece and Serbia. He voiced hope that the opening, which will be held next year, will be attended by the two countries' presidents, Karolos Papoulias and Boris Tadic.
Archaeologist Marko Popovic explained that the exhibition hall will be completed by the end of next year, and that the tower will be opened in spring 2010.
