First Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dacic said today that the removal of visa restrictions for Serbian citizens could take place before January 1, 2010.
Speaking to the press, Dacic said that Serbia has met all the conditions set forth in the EU’s visa liberalisation road map, adding that there is no cause for concern regarding that question.
Whether visa restrictions will be removed from January 1, 2010 or a few weeks earlier is primarily a question of technical issues and procedures, explained Dacic.
He said that the final decision will be made on November 30 at the meeting of the EU ministers of interior and justice.
He said that on
November 6, Austria and Serbia signed a memorandum concerning interior security cooperation, explaining that Montenegro and Macedonia also signed similar agreements and the agreements are to come into effect after the removal of visa restrictions, which means that EU countries are preparing for this step.
