Opening the conference on the Action Plan for the implementation of youth employment policy for the period 2009–2011, Ilic said that the young make up 26.7% of the total number of the registered unemployed at the National Employment Service.
The majority of them are between 25 and 29 years of age (94,380), followed by those between 20 and 24 years (78,640), he specified.
Ilic said that the unemployment rate of young people between 15 and 24 years of age is 40.7% and of those between 25 and 34 is 20.4%.
He also noted that, due to the crisis, the funds from the budget which the state allocated for employment purposes are not sufficient to include all those who need assistance.
Minister of Youth and Sports Snezana Samardzic-Markovic reiterated that the young must become a priority in the society since they are the country’s most precious resource.
Italian Ambassador to Serbia Armando Varricchio stated that Italy is ready to assist youth employment in Serbia with a €1.2 million donation, adding that it is important to help the young and open jobs for them.
The Fund for an Open Society provided the National Employment Service with $570, 000 for 400 young people aged between 15 and 29 and living in the Bor, Raska, Branicevo and North Banat districts.
