Kalanovic said that these municipalities are Leskovac, Vranje, Jagodina, Pirot, Aleksinac and Trstenik, whose water supplies will be improved through investment from the German government and a loan from the German Development Bank (KfW), worth a total of €30.28 million.
The first phase of the programme will be financed by the German government through a €13 million donation, while KfW will set aside €17 million.
Kalanovic said that a quality water supply system in these municipalities will help to strengthen the economy and increase investment.
The first stage of the project was successfully concluded in eight towns, Kraljevo, Loznica, Sabac, Smederevo, Sremska Mitrovica, Vrsac, Pancevo and Sombor and was also financed by the German government at a cost of around €10 million.
KfW representative Werner Klinger stated that the programme was expanded because of the success it achieved in these towns, adding that in the first six new towns the same concept will be implemented.
Klinger recalled that KfW, being the key donor in the water supply sector, has provided €140 million to local self-government in Serbia since 2000, while their total assistance to Serbia stands at € 750 million.
