Speaking at a press conference concerning the international conference “Fight against Racism and Violence through Diversity in Sport”, Samardzic-Markovic said that joint work will be done on the implementation of Council of Europe projects in order to penalize hooliganism and to encourage real fans that are not violent.
She said that it was agreed with Adlesic that Serbia and Croatia will improve cooperation to control sport related violence and inappropriate behaviour at sporting events, adding that overall sports cooperation will also be advanced.
She said that exchange of experience is of great importance in resolving the problem of sports violence, adding that the real causes of violence in sport must be dealt with through a long term educational process.
She said that she has accepted an invitation by the Croatian Deputy Prime Minister to visit Croatia.
Adlesic said that the fight against sports violence must include work with supporters groups in order to educate young people.
She explained that measures can vary and depend on what certain supporters groups do, adding that the measures can range from bans on going to certain matches to total bans on entry into stadiums and detention during matches.
Adlesic stressed that the media can play a role in preventing sports violence.
She said that she regrets the incidents that took place in Varazdin, where Croatian fans insulted the Serbian team during a match between the national teams of the two countries.
