Interior Ministry, OSCE cooperation improves

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Ivica Dacic and newly appointed Head of OSCE Mission to Serbia Ambassador Dimitrios Kypreos today expressed willingness to improve the already good cooperation between the Interior Ministry and the OSCE.

Dacic welcomed the newly appointed head of the OSCE Mission and recalled that the Serbian Interior Ministry and the OSCE Mission signed on September 7 a revised Memorandum of Understanding, whose priorities are the fight against organised crime, local community police, specialist training, strategic planning, border police and public relations.

The First Deputy Prime Minister pointed to the importance of establishing even greater trust between citizens and police, which is also part of the priorities in the cooperation between the Ministry and the OSCE.

Dacic said that the international police campaign “Balkan Warrior“, in which a few days ago over two tons of cocaine were seized and five persons arrested in Uruguay and Serbia, will be continued,.

At the order of the Special prosecutor’s office for the fight against organised crime, the police will continue to track down and arrest everyone in Serbia who is involved in the international smuggling of cocaine. Dacic said that the seizure of cocaine as part of the international campaign points to the importance of regional cooperation between police and security units.

That was our biggest operation, in which large amounts of narcotics were discovered, helped by cooperation between the police and security units of several states, Dacic says. Kipreos said that the OSCE and the Serbian Ministry of the Interior have a high level of cooperation, which is proof of how important Serbia is to the international community.
