The deputy of the Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC) Patriarch Pavle, Metropolitan of Montenegro and the Littoral Amfilohije, delivered tonight Russian President Dmitry Medvedev the Order of Saint Sava, First Class, the top decoration that the SPC awards.

Medvedev, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and other members of the Russian delegation were welcomed in front of the patriarchate’s building by members of the SPC Synod, bishops Irinej and Grigorije.
The Order of Saint Sava of First Class was awarded to Medvedev for his contribution to Orthodox Christianity and the centuries-long traditional friendship between the Serbian and Russian churches and the two Orthodox peoples.
The ceremony was also attended by vicar bishop of Patriarch Pavle Atanasije Hvostanski, representative of the Russian Diocese in Belgrade Vitalije Tarasjev, as well as other church dignitaries.
Also present were Crown Prince Aleksandar Karadjordjevic II and Princess Katarina.
