Cyprus will support proposal to remove visa restrictions for Serbia

Serbian First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dacic said after talks with Cypriot Minister of Justice and Public Order Loukas Louka that he is grateful to the Cypriot government for their support to Serbia on its path to the EU.

Dacic stressed that Cyprus will support the proposal to remove visa restrictions for Serbian citizens from January 1, 2010. He expressed gratitude to the Cypriot government for its principled stance of not recognising Kosovo.
Louka said that Cyprus supports Serbia’s efforts to become a member of the EU and to defend its territorial integrity, just as Serbia has supported Cyprus in their efforts to find a solution to the Cypriot issue. Dacic said that Serbia is also interested in the development of bilateral relations with Cyprus in the field of police cooperation.
He said that the two countries cooperate in the fight against financial crime, money laundering, drug and human trafficking as well as in the fight against terrorism.
The previously signed agreement on police cooperation between Serbia and Cyprus should be ratified by the two parliaments.
Dacic will also meet with Cypriot Minister of Interior Neoklis Sylikiotis as well as with other state officials.
