Evaluation of scientific work must be stimulating

Deputy Prime Minister for EU integration and Minister of Science and Technological Development Bozidar Djelic today stated that the system for evaluating scientific achievements must be stimulating in order to boost the number of scientific papers and implement them in the economy.

Opening the debate "Evaluation, Financing and Development of Science in Serbia" Djelic voiced his expectation that the new rulebook, which is to establish the criteria for evaluating scientific work, will be adopted by the end of March, 2010.
Djelic noted that Serbia now produces 2.5 times more scientific papers than it did before, but added that, considering the size of its population, this is insufficient, noting the example of Slovenia, where the number is four times greater.
He said that scientific papers must be used for commercial purposes in the economy, which is why Serbia will strive to ensure that scientific ideas are turned into product and sold at foreign markets.
Djelic explained that the state must provide sufficient money for ground investigations in the field of social sciences, such as sociology and archeology, and added that the Strategy of scientific and technological development will be completed by the end of the year.
President of the Centre for Democracy Dragoljub Micunovic said that further scientific development requires greater financing, adoption of the above-mentioned Strategy, investment in talent and human resources and the inclusion of Serbia into international projects and international flows.
Today’s debate has been organised as part of the project “Democratic political forum” of the Centre for Democracy, in cooperation with the Friedrich Ebert foundation.
