Following the signing Miljkovic told a press conference that the Agreement is to be affirmed by the two governments, adding that it will enable the functioning of the open sky regime.
He explained that the Agreement will enable Jat Airways and five air lines from the UAE to operate an unlimited number of flights between Serbia and the UAE, adding that they will also be able to fly to other countries from airports in Serbia and the UAE.
Miljkovic also noted that until now only Jat Airways flew from Belgrade to Abu Dhabi twice a week.
Serbian Minister of Infrastructure Milutin Mrkonjic said at the press conference that establishing the open sky regime with the UAE is a chance to improve economic cooperation between the two countries, first of all in the field of tourism.
The Minister said that the state is willing to help Jat Airways to consolidate and prepare for privatisation and voiced his expectation that after the initialling of the Agreement, Jat Airways will get back on its feet and be ready for privatisation within six to 12 months.
That is when the state will begin negotiations with potential strategic partners who are interested in Jat Airways and voiced hope that some of the five companies from the UAE will be interested in the Serbian state air company, he said
Head of the Directorate of Civil Aviation of Serbia Nebojsa Starcevic said that Serbia will open an air gate towards the East with this agreement with the UAE and recalled that Serbia already has an open sky regime with the EU.
Starcevic also said that 20 pilots and over 250 flight attendants from Serbia are currently employed in the UAE.
