At a
three-day seminar organised for police spokespersons, Dacic said that the police cannot be successful without citizens’ trust, which is why it is necessary to make police work more transparent in the media.
Apart from being trained for their police work, police officers should be trained to know how to appear in public, Dacic said.
The Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Justice will establish the methodology and the manner of acting bearing in mind new regulations regarding the publication of certain data, he said.
The public needs timely, full and correct information, Dacic said, noting that sometimes the media publish much more than the police announce in its press releases.
OSCE Ambassador’s Deputy Thomas Moore said that cooperation of police and media is important in order to promote the work of the Interior Ministry.
He expressed his hope that this seminar is just the first in a series that the Serbian Interior Ministry and OSCE plan to organise.
The aim of the seminar is to improve the cooperation between police administrations and local media.
