Djelic participates in global Forum on Science and Technology in Society

Deputy Prime Minister for EU Integration and Minister of Science and Technological Development Bozidar Djelic took part in the sixth global Forum on Science and Technology in Society, held in Kyoto, Japan.
The forum gathered 25 science ministers, ten Nobel Prize winners and over 1,000 scientists, entrepreneurs and statesmen from around the world.
Djelic addressed the ministerial panel on scientific and technological diplomacy and international cooperation and presented a draft strategy for scientific and technological development in Serbia.
He also held over twenty bilateral meetings during his time there.
Agreement was reached with Director of the US National Science Foundation Arden Bement about signing an interstate agreement to facilitate Serbian scientists’ access to US programmes. President of the European Science Foundation Marja Makarow suggested that this organisation conduct an evaluation of the Serbian science system.
It was also agreed that directors of scientific departments at Swiss global pharmaceutical companies Roche and Novartis visit Serbia to look at the possibilities of launching joint biomedicine projects.
Agreement was also reached with Chairman of the global manufacturer of telecommunications equipment NEC Corporation Hajime Sasaki to contemplate Serbia’s potential as an investment target.
Djelic also met with editor-in-chief of Nature magazine Philippe Campbell. They agreed that this prestigious magazine should make a report on Serbia’s scientific progress, the statement adds.
