He noted that Slovakia is Serbia’s close friend and partner and added that cooperation will be improved in the upcoming period through direct investments from Slovakia in the Serbian financial and banking sector.
Lajcak said that after the recent visit of Serbian Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic to Bratislava, Slovak President Ivan Gasparovic will visit Serbia by the end of this year, which shows that the dialogue is really intensive and friendly.
He repeated that Slovakia will not recognise Kosovo’s independence because Bratislava respects international law.
Lajcak said that his country supports the unblocking of the EU integration process for Serbia.
Jeremic also said that Serbia supports a stable Bosnia-Herzegovina on the road to EU integration but Serbia cannot allow its own interests to be jeopardised.
Jeremic and Lajcak said that the situation in Bosnia-Herzegovina is complex and a higher level of engagement from the international community is needed to overcome the problems existing there.
Jeremic recalled that the situation in Bosnia-Herzegovina has been difficult recently, but added that progress may yet be achieved before the year’s end.
Lajcak also noted that the situation there is unsatisfactory and that stronger engagement from the international community is needed to resolve the problems.
Jeremic and Lajcak talked about improving cooperation over culture and education, issues which they will discuss in more detail tomorrow during their visit to Backi Petrovac. They also signed a Memorandum of Understanding between their two ministries on joint cooperation within the Partnership for Peace programme.
