Kopaonik prepared for winter season

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Mladjan Dinkic today stated that Kopaonik is ready for the new winter season to begin on November 1, adding that this year artificial snow will be provided to all key ski routes.

During his visit to the 4-seater gondola lift “Gobelja” and four new ski routes, Dinkic voiced his belief that all the works will soon be completed and that they will contribute to better tourist season.
He pointed out that Kopaonik currently looks like a huge building site, voicing his belief that in the upcoming period it will become the most important winter centre in South Eastern Europe.
Minister Dinkic, together with representatives of the Skijalista Srbije and Srbija Vode public companies, visited the waste water management system Srebrenac. He stressed that the Ministry's main aim is to help construct new water supply and waste water management systems, announcing a new model for financing communal infrastructure at Kopaonik.
All hotel owners who invest in the construction of Kopaonik public utility systems, including water supply and waste water management factories, will not have to pay local taxes, he explained.
In this way, the state will be able to invest less money, while tourists, hotel owners and the municipalities of Raska and Brus will have benefits.
Dinkic said that it will take two years to complete the new utilities system project, adding that he hopes that by the end of 2011 Kopaonik will have a normal supply of drinking water and guaranteed environmental protection.
The Minister said that a similar project model will be used to build gondola lifts on Kopaonik in the future, noting that it has yet to be determined how private capital will be integrated into investments for building new gondola lifts.
He said that this year the Public Works Programme was also used and 50 previously unemployed people were hired to clear up ski routes from stones to make all the ski routes perfectly ready for the winter tourist season.
Works on the 4-seater gondola lift “Gobelja” manufactured by Doppelmayr began at the end of 2008 and were financed with a sum of RSD 340 million from the National Investment Plan. The gondola lift can transport 2,400 people per hour.
The artificial snow system on Kopaonik cost RSD 246 million and is completely automatic.
The system will ensure maximum utilization of the ski season.
