Presenting the results of the survey at the Serbian Chamber of Commerce, Vukmirovic said that compared to 2008, computer usage in households has increased by 6% and internet usage by 3.5%
He said that there is a huge difference in computer and internet usage between urban and rural areas, explaining that the rate of computer usage increase is four times higher in cities than in rural areas.
He said that internet access is highest in Belgrade, at 48.6%, adding that in Vojvodina it is 37.9%, while in central Serbia only 30.5% households have internet access.
Vukmirovic said that 22.9% of households have access to broadband internet, which is 7.4% higher than in the previous year, adding that at 37.6% Belgrade has the highest number of households with broadband internet access
He said that statistics show that more than 2.85 million people used a computer during the last three months, which is an increase of nearly 220,000 when compared to last year.
Vukmirovic said that more than 2.08 million people use computers on a daily or almost daily basis, while more than 1.45 million people use the internet every day and that this figure has increased by 200,000 since last year.
He said that computers are used the most by students and highly educated people, adding that when it comes to computer use in businesses it can be said that almost all businesses, 97.8%, use computers and 94.5% have internet access.
