Serbia getting out of crisis

Deputy Prime Minister Jovan Krkobabic today stated that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) will not demand that pensions be reduced and therefore that issue will not be discussed at the next meeting.
During his working visit to Valjevo, Krkobabic noted that Serbia is gradually getting out of the crisis.
Serbia can expect a slight economic growth in early 2010 owing to government strategies for overcoming the crisis, as well as its savings measures, which have been highly commended by the EU, the World Bank, the European Bank, the IMF and other international institutions.
Krkobabic pointed out that the government must continue implementing savings measures at all levels.
Although a reduction in the number of people employed in state administration is inevitable, the government will do all it can to provide new jobs, the Minister said.
He recalled that the government decided not to increase VAT, as it would negatively affect the economy and lead to new dismissals.
Krkobabic said that as of next year all employers will have to make the pension and insurance payments for their employees, adding that RSD 150 billion will be provided for those workers whose pension and insurance obligations have not been paid by their employers since 2000.
