Markovic said that the common goal of these two projects is to reduce tensions and risks from conflicts amongst national communities in this part of Serbia.
The Minister said that $7.92 million was invested in these projects that will be implemented in 13 municipalities in the Pcinja and Jablanica districts.
These municipalities are Vranje, Trgoviste, Bosilegrad, Vladicin Han, Surdulica, Bojnik, Medvedja, Leskovac, Lebane, Vlasotince, Crna Trava, Presevo and Bujanovac.
He said that this way the preconditions for economic development and improvement in living conditions will be secured in this part of Serbia.
Ombudsman Sasa Jankovic said that in order for citizens to exercise their rights, they must have access to institutions, adding that thanks to these projects, it will be secured for citizens in southern Serbia.
The funds for the three-year project “Capacity Building for Inclusive Development in Southern Serbia”, estimated at $5.4 million, were secured by the Swedish Agency for International Development, the Norwegian government and the United Nation's Development Programme (UNDP BCPR).
The project “Promoting the Preservation of Peace in Southern Serbia” will last two and a half years and $2.5 million has been secured from the UN/Spain Millennium Development Goal Achievement Fund.
Donors from Switzerland, Sweden and Spain announced they will continue helping Serbia to strengthen local self-government.
