All visa liberalisation criteria met

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Ivica Dacic today stated that Serbia has already met all visa liberalisation criteria, voicing his belief that as of January 1, 2010, Serbian citizens will be able to travel to Schengen zone countries without visas.

Talking about "Challenges for Serbia”, Dacic stressed that all the remaining conditions set forth in the road map have been fulfilled owing to the efficient work of the working group in charge of visa liberalisation, led by the Interior and Justice ministries.
Dacic noted that Serbia will have an opportunity to present its results at the upcoming ministerial conference concerning the fight against organised crime in the Western Balkans, which will be attended by European Commission Vice-President Jacques Barrot.
The Minister recalled that more than one million biometric passports have been issued, adding that a new way of taking fingerprints for the new passports, which has yet tocome into practice in the EU, will be introduced in a month’s time,
Regional police cooperation regarding the fight against all types of crime is of vital importance for the visa liberalisation process, he said, noting that the Serbian police can be considered a factor for stability in the region.
The Minister also recalled that the Serbian police have recently signed a police cooperation agreement with EULEX aimed at preventing criminal activity in the southern Serbian province.
The police will do all they can to ensure that the Pride Parade, scheduled for September 20, passes without incident, concluded Minister Dacic.
