Djelic to sign agreement on removal of spent nuclear fuel from Vinca

Serbian Deputy Prime Minister for EU integration and Minister of Science and Technological Development Bozidar Djelic is to lead the Serbian delegation at the 53rd Annual Regular Session of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) General Conference, which will be held in Vienna from September 15 to 16.

According to a statement issued by the Deputy Prime Minister’s Cabinet, a trade agreement will be signed on the first day of the session between Serbia and Russia concerning the removal of the spent nuclear fuel from the Vinca Institute for Nuclear Science and its transfer to Russia.
This agreement will also conclude the financial arrangements concerning the project. Serbia will provide some of the funds, which will be supplemented by donations from the IAEA, the US, the EU and the Czech Republic.
Djelic will also sign an agreement concerning technical cooperation with the IAEA and hold several meetings.
In his speech at the plenary session of the General Conference, Djelic will stress Serbia’s continued commitment to the peaceful use of nuclear energy and inform other member countries about Serbia’s success regarding the implementation of the plan for the decommissioning of the Vinca nuclear institute during the past year.
