Serbia, Bosnia-Herzegovina to sign police cooperation agreement

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Ivica Dacic today stated that Serbia and Bosnia-Herzegovina will sign agreements on police cooperation and the fight against organised crime by the end of this year.

Following a meeting with Bosnian Deputy Minister of Security Mijo Kresic, Dacic told the press that good cooperation between their police forces and judicial bodies, particularly prosecutor's offices, is the main precondition for a successful fight against organised crime. He noted that the arrest of an international criminal group, led by Darko Elez, is the best example of good police cooperation.

Apart from police cooperation, EU integration is of great importance for the stability of the region, he said, stressing that Serbia strongly advocates visa liberalisation for Bosnia-Herzegovina.

This will ease the tensions which built up between the two countries in the recent years, said Dacic, adding that Serbia wishes to settle all disputes through talks and agreements.

Dacic said that the Serbian government has decided to return two helicopters to the Ministry of Security of Bosnia-Herzegovina which were the property of its army when it was part of the former Yugoslavia.

Kresic said that cooperation and coordination between the security forces from the region is the only way forward and that Bosnia-Herzegovina does not want to become a safe haven for criminals.
