In an interview with the Tanjug news agency, Krkobabic note that the IMF has already been informed about government measures for reforming the Republic Fund for Pension and Invalidity Insurance, which include a personnel review, comprehensive revision of the pension system and the setting up of a central registry of insured persons.
The law on pension system reforms is expected to be adopted in early 2010, he said.
The government has already established a working group in charge of reviewing the pension system in general, whose tasks are to monitor whether people who receive old-age, invalidity or family pensions fulfil all the necessary criteria and determine the amounts of money to be paid out.
Krkobabic noted that the Fund for Pension and Invalidity Insurance has established their own working group, led by Director Slobodan Zdravkovic.
The central registry of insured persons will provide precise information concerning the number of employers who regularly meet pension insurance obligations towards their employees.
The law on the central registry will be adopted by the end of this year and its implementation will begin by the middle of 2010.
Krkobabic stressed that the government and the IMF have reached agreement on the pension policy.
International organisations have approved all our suggestions as they are very well aware that a reduction in pensions is not the best solution at the present time, concluded the Minister.
