Jeremic, who is currently in New York preparing Serbia’s appearance before the UN General Assembly to be held in September, told the Blic daily that a Serbian delegation, led by Serbian President Boris Tadic, will have a very complicated task to oppose Pristina.
The Minister noted that President Tadic’s visit to China can be considered a historical event.
Serbia and China reached agreement on the majority of political issues, he said, adding that Beijing clearly showed that it will continue supporting Serbia in its fight to preserve Kosovo-Metohija. The Minister added that Serbia will also provide support to China when it comes to the preservation of its own territorial integrity.
Cooperation with China is of great importance for Serbia, bearing in mind that China is a major economic power in 21st century, he said.
The fact that Serbia is the only country in the region that has managed to formalise a strategic partnership with China can be considered as a great foreign policy success for Serbia .
As for the statement that Serbia is maintaining a schizophrenic foreign policy, trying to simultaneously improve relations with the EU, the USA, Russia and the Non-Aligned countries, Minister Jeremic stressed that Serbia’s foreign policy priorities should not be confused with the different means Serbia is using to achieve it’s aims.
Serbia’s foreign policy priorities are clearly defined and supported by Serbian citizens. The government is working on joining the EU, preserving their territorial integrity by diplomatic means and promoting regional cooperation, said the Minister.
As for the statement that by making allies in the East, Serbia is neglecting its EU integration, Jeremic stressed that Serbia’s key strategic priority is to join the EU.
